더불어민주당 장종태 국회의원(대전 서구갑)이 “대전과 충남을 아우르는 통합특별시야말로 지역 발전의 새로운 동력”이라며 지역 통합에 대한 강한 의지를 드러냈다.
17일 오전 대전 갑천 호수공원에서는 잼잼산악회 대전본부 주관으로 열린 ‘대전·충남 통합 기원 환경정화 줍킹대회’가 열렸다.
추운 날씨에도 많은 시민, 당원, 지방선거 출마예정자들이 함께 쓰레기를 줍고 호수공원 일대를 돌며 ‘생활 속 실천으로 지역 통합을 응원하자’는 메시지를 나눴다.
현장에는 장종태 의원을 비롯해 양승조 전 충남지사, 장철민 의원(대전 동구), 고준일 세종시장 출마예정자 등이 함께 했다. 이날 잼잼산악회는 장철민 의원을 공동대표로 공식 추대하며 지역 정치권의 연대 세를 넓히는 계기를 마련했다.

장종태 의원은 인사말에서 “비와 눈 속에서도 민주주의를 지켜낸 시민 여러분의 헌신이 오늘의 희망을 만들었다”며 “이제는 이재명 정부의 성공과 지방선거 승리를 통해 대전·충남의 새로운 도약을 이끌어야 한다”고 강조했다.
이어 “지역 균형발전의 모델이자 ‘금강의 기적’을 실현할 통합특별시를 반드시 완성하겠다”고 밝혔다.
행정 전문가로 꼽히는 장 의원은 9급 공무원으로 공직을 시작해 8년간 대전 서구청장을 지냈으며, 풍부한 현장 경험을 바탕으로 ‘대전·충남 통합특별시’ 구상을 대표 정책 과제로 추진 중이다.
그는 “행정·산업·교통이 유기적으로 연결된 통합 광역경제권이야말로 미래 성장의 관문”이라며 “실질적 통합 추진 로드맵을 구체화하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
